Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) associates with a set of proteins to form ribosomes. These complex structures, which physically move along an mRNAmolecule, catalyze the assembly ofamino acids into protein chains. They also bind tRNAs and various accessory molecules necessary for protein synthesis.
