Diaphragm :
Expands downwards into the abdominal cavity to allow for the lungs to expand as we inhale. As the diaphragm contracts the air is expelled from the lungs.
Ribs :
The ribs protect the lungs and expand as you inhale to facilitate space for the lungs to expand like the diaphragm. The ribs then contract expelling the air in the lungs.
Sternum :
The sternum protects the vital area right above your heart and lungs. It completes the rib cage, since the first to the seventh rib is the insertion point of ribs and upper limbs.

Answer:
function of Ribs and Diaphragm:-
The act of breathing is performed primarily by the diaphragm, a large muscle that separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity and also by the movement of the ribs.
During inspiration the diaphragm contracts and becomes flat, creating a vacuum in the thoracic cavity. This vacuum inflates the lungs by drawing air into the body through the trachea, or windpipe.
During normal expiration, the diaphragm relaxes allowing the air to flow out as the lungs deflate.
The ribs protect the lungs and expand as we inhale to facilitate space for the lungs to expand like the diaphragm. The ribs then contract expelling the air in the lung.
function of the sternum
our sternum serves two very important functions: Protection. Your sternum, along with your ribs, works to protect the organs of your torso, such as your heart, lungs, and chest blood vessels.
