Satellites of chromosomes have repetitive, heterochromatic DNA sequences. During the replication of the chromosomes the ends ofchromosomal sequences are truncated. As the satellites are nonsense sequences they are lost during replication thus protecting the useful euchromatic DNA towards the core of the chromosome.

Hey there! ☺

Nice Question! ♥

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Referring to understand the better answer, you would have to know about

   ♣ What is Chromosome ?

♣ What is the satellite in chromosome ?

Then we'll have a look at function of satellite in chromosomes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chromosomes are usually found in nuclei which look like thread. Also, they abide in both plants cells and animal cells.

Satellites in the chromosomes are the functional units which we found in rest body of thread of the chromatin.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

♦ What is the function of satellite in chromosomes ?

Satellites in chromosomes are lost at the process of replication due to which they have irregular DNA sequences i.e. heterochromatic DNA sequences.

The main function of satellite in chromosomes can state that -

"They protect the euchromatic DNA which is at core (deep) of the chromosomes."
