The Smooth endoplasmic reticulum in liver cells, contains enzymes that metabolize glycogen. They also detoxify lipophilic drugs and transform bile pigments (such as Bilirubin).
The SER has an important impact on the half-lives of life-saving medications. They modify toxins so that they can be detoxified and expelled in the urine. That means they have to be well developed.
The smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) serves numerous functions, a major example of which is to synthesize fatty acids and phospholipids for use in all of the cellular membranes.

Answer:

Vertebrates include amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds, as well as the jawless fishes, bony fishes, sharks, and rays. More than 64,000 species of vertebrates have been described, but the extant vertebrate species represent only a small portion of all the vertebrates that have existed.
