SER stands for smooth endoplasmic reticulum. It does not contain ribosomes on its surface.it helps in synthesizing of fats ar lipids, glycogen etc. It is involved in detoxification of many poisons and drugs in liver cells of vertebrates. It helps in bio synthesizing of cholesterol. It also synthesis steroid hormones such as estrogen, testosterone and cortisol. Lipids from SER also helps in building of plasma membrane.
