Answer:
In the epidermis of leaves, there are small pores called stomata . The stomata are enclosed by two kidney shaped cells called guard cells .
Functions:
- Exchange of gases ,Oxygen and carbon dioxide .
- Losses large amount of water( water vapour) during transpiration .
The opening and closing of stomatal pores are controlled by the turgidity of the guard cells. The swelling of guard cells due to the absorption of water causes opening of stomatal pores, while shrinking of guard cells closes the pores.
