The function of the tail in a sperm us 5o let the sperm swim inside the female body to ultimately reach the egg released by the female this tail whips right and left thus making it go forward .at a time lots of sperms1 are produced but only a single sperm reaches the egg and this sperm's head will join into the egg and form a zygote at this point the tail of the sperm will fall and disappear .So I have answered ur question with the bes5 of my knowledge

ITS PROPULSION SYSTEMS WHICH MEANS IT HELPED IN PROPELLING OR SWIM THE HELPE OF SPERM CELL FORWARD TO MEET THE EGG.
