A potometer (from Greek ποτό = drunken, and μέτρο = measure), sometimes known as a transpirometer, is a device used for measuring the rate of water uptake of a leafy shoot. The causes of water uptake are photosynthesis and transpiration.

Reservoir helps the air bubble to travel back to the start of the measuring scale when the experiment is repeated. Photometer is a device which is solely used for the purpose to find out the rate of transpiration in a plant.
