Brian01234: Some examples are aldehyde ,ketones, alcohols, Carboxylic acids
harshitarajput2: thanks
itraa2000: Carboxylic acids have a hydroxyl group bonded to an acyl group, and their functional derivatives are prepared by replacement of the hydroxyl group with substituents, such as halo, alkoxyl, amino and acyloxy.
itraa2000: CH3(CH2)2CO2H

butanoic acid
itraa2000: CH3(CH2)2CONH2

butanamide

An atom or a group of atom or a characteristics structure feature such as multiple bond which when present in a compound gives certain special properties to it is called a functional group.
EX :- ---OH. [Hydroxyl group].

-----COH. [Aldehydic Group].

-----COOH [Carboxylic group].

nehagalaria: no... not properly bt Let’s say you’re trying to name a molecule. You’re familiar with the familiar naming suffixes like -ol, -ene, -ane, -oic acid and so on. But then you come across a molecule which has multipul functional groups.
