Acetic acid is of the carboxylic acid functional group. Acetic acid is also known as ethanoic acid, its chemical symbol is represented by CH3COOH. It contains the carboxyl group, -COOH. Members of this group (carboxylic acids) groups are polar substances, i.e their molecules can form strong hydrogen bonds with each other and also with water. This(polarity) confers on them their high boiling points.
