HCF of 2x and 3x = x

GIVEN:

Number 2x and 3x

TO FIND:

The HCF of 2x and 3x

SOLUTION:

HCF (Highest Common Factor):

  • Highest Common Factor is a highest number which divides each of the given two or more numbers perfectly.
  • HCF is also known as Greatest Common Divisor or GCD
  • Example: HCF of (3, 6)

        3 = 3 × 1 and 6 = 2 × 3

        [ here 3 will be the common factor of 3 and 6 ]

       HCF of (3, 6) is 3

Given numbers 2x and 3x

Write given numbers as product of prime numbers

⇒ 2x = 2 × x

⇒ 3x = 3 × x

Here, highest common factor in both factors = x

Therefore,  HCF of 2x and 3x = x
