Marginal Product or MP curve graphically illustrates the relation between marginal product and the quantity of the variable input, holding all other inputs fixed. This curve indicates the incremental change in output at each level of a variable input.
According to the law of variable proportions, the marginal product of an input initially increases and after a definite level (degree) of employment, it starts decreasing. Thus all MP curves look like a reverse ‘U’ shaped curve or are invertedly U-shaped.
