The term "RNA" stands for Ribo Nucleic Acid. RNA can be defined as a single stranded nucleic acid, which is composed of ribose sugar and is primarily responsible for protein synthesis. The purine bases are Adenine (A) and Guanine (G), whereas its pyrimidine bases are Cytosine (C) and Uracil (U).

Now, RNA can be genetic and non-genetic. Genetic RNA is the RNA which bears hereditary units (genes). Genetic RNA plays genetic role since it bears genes. Genetic RNA is found in most plant viruses (one of them is TMV, full form is Tobacco Mosaic Virus). Genetic RNA is also found in some animal viruses like INFLUENZA VIRUS and HIV (HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS).
