Kosi river also known as Sorrow of Bihar changes its course very frequently. In recent times it has shifted 148km westward.

The possible causes for this reason are as follows.

Gentle slope of land- The slope of land is only 2 to 3 cm due to which water gets spread forming various courses.

Speed of water- In rainy months due to rapid speed of rain water, water follows the slope which is less inclined and create courses.

Oxbow lakes and Meandering of rivers{Geographical term} are also responsible for the changing course of Kosi river.
