Heya!

From the poem “I Know why the caged bird sings” by Maya Angelou. The caged bird has no freedom. His feet are tied and wings are clipped. He stalks down the narrow cage and can seldom see through the bars of the cage. In this condition, all his dreams seem to be unachievable in his life. He has probably given up on his dreams of liberty and flying freely in the sky. His dreams are now ‘dead’. That is why the poet says that the bird ‘stands on the grave of dreams / his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream‘.

Hope it helps you!

Answer:

Explanation:

"Grave of dreams"

This indicates that its dreams are gone, and the cage is their final resting place. The cage is like a graveyard to the bird's dreams and aspirations, therefore the imprisoned bird is standing on the grave of dreams. He is severely constrained, and his situation is nightmare-like.

The bird is unable to fly freely because its feet are bound and its wings are clipped; as a result, it has given up on that desire and declared its dreams to be "dead." It now stands on its dead dreams as a result.

A caged bird stands on the grave of dreams:

All of his goals appear to be unattainable in his current situation. He most likely has given up on his hopes for freedom and unrestricted sky travel. His hopes have now "died." The poet describes the bird as standing on the grave of dreams and shouting with a nightmare scream because of this.

The caged bird stand for:

Throughout her collection of autobiographies, Angelou makes frequent use of the poem by Paul Laurence Dunbar's description of a bird trying to escape its prison as a metaphor. The caged bird signifies Angelou's incarceration as a result of racism and injustice, much like components in a prison story.
