homologous series is a series of organic compounds where the successive members follow a regular pattern. the successive members differ by a CH2 group.
e.g. -
alkane group-
CH4 - methane
C2H6 - ethane
C3H8 - propane
C4H10 - butane
we can see that the members differ by a CH2 group.
