Hybridisation : The alteration of the structure of the atomic orbitals is called hybridisation Bond Angle of the compound CIF3 Between the two Fluorine atoms the angle is 180 degrees, however, the chlorine and the other fluorine atom have an angle less than 90 degrees because with 5 bonding sites this would be a trigonal bi-pyramidal structure, but the presence of two non-bonded pairs (lone pairs) makes this molecule a T-shape. A letter T has 90 degree angles, but the two lone pairs compress these angles so that they are less than 90 degrees.

The hybridisation of carbon is sp3- the bond angles around carbon are all tetrahedral. It have several common oxidation states so we tend to not write electron-dot formulas for their compounds.
