The ideal length of time for a cool down following an intense workout is 5-15 minutes.

During workout, heart rate increases and body sweats heavily. It is important to bring body back to normal after workout before doing anything else.

It is also said that after an intensive workout it is important to wait for like 30 minutes before you eat anything.
