What is the impact of UV rays on plants?

GIVEN THAT: human body generates vitamin D in the presence of UV rays but excess UV rays can cause skin cancer.

Plants, which use sunlight for photosynthesis and are unable to avoidexposure to enhanced levels of UV-Bradiation, are at risk. Thus, mechanisms by which plants may protect themselves from UV radiation are of particular interest.
