What is the importance of atmosphere to the life present on the earth? Name the important layers of atmosphere
Answers
Answer:
Atmosphere is essential for all the living things because in can hold the essential gases like oxygen , nitrogen and etc . It protects the earth from the sun's harmful rays or ultraviolet rays
IMPORTANCE OF ATMOSPHERE-
The Atmosphere is the layer/blanket of different gases (air) which surrounds Earth along with many other planets too. Our planet's gravity is strong enough to retain the Atmosphere and keep it close.
Here is how the Atmosphere is beneficial for us -
- It protects us from the harmful Ultra Violet rays of the sun which can cause eye problems, liver spots, premature aging etc.
- It traps some of the heat from the sun making Earth livable for all it's beings.
- It provides Co2 (Carbon Dioxide) for plants, and O2 (Oxygen) for animals
- The Atmosphere is also a reservoir of water.

DIFFERENT LAYERS OF ATMOSPHERE-
TROPOSPHERE : Extends 8-15 km from the Earth's surface and is the lower most layer since we live in it. It is responsible for the water cycle which results in cloud formation, rain etc.
STRATOSPHERE : Extends up to 50 km and is present above Troposphere. It hosts the Ozone layer which protects us from UV rays of the sun.
MESOSPHERE : Extends to 85 km from the Earth's surface. It protects us from Meteors and space junk which burn up in this layer.
THERMOSPHERE : Extends till 600 km and is present above the Mesosphere. It is considered the "hot layer" since it is the warmest. Satellites are placed in this layer which make space research/studies easier.
EXOSPHERE : Extends up to 10,000 km from the surface of our planet. It is the outermost layer of Earth's Atmosphere.
Hope this helped you
