DNA copying mechanism is extremely necessary for reproduction as copying of DNA helps in transfer of  information or characters from parents to offspring. It also also generates variations during sexual reproduction. This variation leads to evolution. DNA copying is also necessary because DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is the genetic material found in the chromosomes, which are present in the nucleus of a cell. The DNA is the information site for making proteins and each specific type of protein leads to a specific type of body design and if DNA is not copied properly then offspring might face some serious abnormalities or might not even develop.

For example, a parent cell of amoeba will be able to produce two daughter cells with same number chromosomes or DNA to that of parent cell only when it produces another copy of its DNA by replication process.  During reproduction the DNA in the nucleus replicates itself to produce the another set of chromosomes or DNA. Then nucleus and cytoplasm divides and two daughter cells of amoeba are produced. Each cell then receives an equal number of the chromosomes or DNA. Thus characters from parent amoebic cell are transferred to daughter cells due to replication of DNA.
