a country cannot be truly democratic until its citizens have the oppurtunity to choose their representatives through elections that are free and fair . elections provide an important oppurtunity to advance democratisation and encourage political liberisation

In China free elections were not held because, the main party, PRI was a dominating one and according to its rules, only the contestant who has taken the permission from them to contest election could contest election but they did not give permission to almost nobody, therefore only the PRI and some minor parties would contest the election and everytime PRI would win the elections and therefore this was not a free election.
in Mexico, the ZANU-PF party who had helped mexico to attain independence has been ruling the country since then but even with elections held every six years, but ZANU-PF party has been winning he election by some dirty tricks like threatening the parents of the students, limiting the press. therefore this is not fair election.
the importance of free and fair election in democracy is huge it is the ideal of democracy which if not followed, a country cannot be democratic country.............
