One of the important achievements of Indian Railways has been the construction of Konkan Railway in 1998. It is 760 km long rail route connecting Roha in Maharashtra to Mangalore in Karnataka. It is considered an engineering marvel. It crosses 146 rivers, streams, nearly 2000 bridges and 91 tunnels.

What are the problems faced by konkan Railway???

1) The Sinking of track in some stretches and landslides. 2) Building over 2000 bridges and 91 tunnels through the mountain terrain that contain many rivers. 3) Acquisition of land. 4) Wild animals damaging the construction sites as the region were densely forested.

It connects the most important economic part of India. It facilitated the movement of goods and passengers to different parts of the country.

During construction it had experienced high amount of sinking and landslides as it passes through a lot of seacoast-ish sideland and rivers and Ghats.
