Northern plains are one of the most productive part of India's landmass. Northern plains spread over a region of 3 lakh meter square. Northern plains are argriculturally productive part of india because they are drained by 3 main himalayan rivers that are Indus, Ganga and brahmaputra and this region is composed of alluvial soil. This soil is formed by alluvium and silt that is brought by the himalyan rivers. due to the agriculutural prominenece of northern plains these regions are densly populated.
