Because they are the best objects to contain live.
Stars are to hot, have a to strong gravity and are to bright for life.

In black holes you are litterally teared apart due the strong gravity there.

Astroids are bad for life and human live because there is almost none gravity. This means that you need te be attached to the astroid or you will floating away form the astroid to space. Another reason is that (most) astroids have a elliptical orbit. Because of this astroids are sometimes to far away from the sun and are to cold for live.

Humanity has not the technology to leave the planet and live in spaceships. And if we could in the far future, it would be a bad idea. You need then to build a self-sufficient ship minimal the size of a small moon. It would be much cheaper to go to a planet and terraform it.
These objects are important because they are the best places to contain live. If they have the right circumstances life can form on planets.
This is why planets are important: because they are one of the few objects in space were live can form and humanity could live in the far future.

Explanation:

According to the International Astronomical Union, which sets definitions for planetary science, a dwarf planet is a celestial body that -orbits the sun, has enough mass to assume a nearly round shape, has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit and is not a moon.
