Preparation:-

It is a compound of calcium sulphate hemihydrate known as plaster of Paris or POP.

Calcium sulphate hemihydrate is formed when we heat gypsum above 373k temperature.

It loses its one and half part of water 9f crystallization and formed a hard solid mass known as plaster of Paris as( it is first used in Paris) .

Reaction Mechanism:-

CaSO_4.2H_2O + \delta 373k \rightarrow CaSO_4.\dfrac{1}{2}H_2O + \dfrac{3}{2}H_2OCaSO </p><p>4

Uses :-

  • It is used to make the toys.
  • It is used in plaster of fractured bone.
  • It is used to give the finishing shiny touch to the buildings.
  • It is used to protect their coatings of walls from corrosion.
