Lungs always have residual volume of air so that there is sufficient time for oxygen to be absorbed and carbon di oxide to be released.

when air is inhaled and exhaled , the lungs keep a residual volume of air so because it take sufficient time to oxygen to be absorbed and carbon dioxide to be released and it also prevent lungs from collapsing after each breathe
