What is the importance of variation? Highlight its pros and cons

Variation is important because it ensures a better survival rate of a species.

For eg- There is a population of bacteria living in a place having cold climate. they are accustomed to live in this kind of environment  and cannot withstand  hot climate. lets say a variation such that of withstanding even high temperature is generated in an individual and this variation is accumulated then even in high temperature the variant bacteria would survive and the non variant one would die.

advantage of Variation.

1. It ensures the survival rate of individual.

2. Basis of evolution.

disadvantage of Variation

1. Not always positive , sometimes negative variation may also occur.
