Perennial rivers originate from the Himalayas which flow throughout the year providing irrigation for the agricultural fields. They bring down silt and other materials forming plains which are fertile and are very good to grow crops.

The mighty rivers originating from the Himalayas Ganges, Indus etc contribute in forming the plains in India which is highly fertile.The Himalayas obstruct the monsoon clouds. Hence, the plains are provided with a lot of rainfall.
