Himalayas play a more than significant role in indian agriculture esp the north Indian floodplains.
They have played their part through the following:
Their glaciers like gangotri, yamnotri have provided the country with one of the largest river systems. Infact all three perenial water systems i.e. Indus, ganga and brahmaputra originate from himalayas. So in short they provide water for agriculture and throughout the year.Since himalayas are young fold mountains and made of sedimentary rocks, the rivers see higher erosion and eventual floodplains are formed which happen to be the biggest agricultural states in the country
