himalayas play more significant role in indian agriculture especially the north indian floodplains:
1.Their glaciers like gangotri, yamnotri have provided the country with one of the largest river systems.
2. Since himalayas are young fold mountains and made of sedimentary rocks, the rivers see higher erosion and eventual floodplains are formed which happen to be the biggest agricultural states in the country.
3. Western disturbance is important for rabi crops like wheat that provides the needed moisture.
4. They also act as a barrier for summer rainfall where the southwest monsoon would have otherwise passed over from India.
