The Internet is a global network of billions of computers and other electronic devices. With the Internet, it's possible to access almost any information, communicate with anyone else in the world, and do much more.  It connects millions of computers together globally, forming a network in which any computer can communicate with any other computer as long as they are both connected to the internet. It is made up of a massive network of specialized computers called routers.  

Each router's job is to know how to move packets along from their source to their destination. A packet will have moved through multiple routers during its journey. When a packet moves from one router to the next, it's called a hop.
