It is a minimum for the alkali metals which have a single electron outside a closed shell. It generally increases across a row on the periodic maximum for the noble gases which have closed shells.

Factors Influencing Ionisation Energy. The Ionisation energy depends upon the size of atom, because with increase in size, the distance between nucleus and valence electrons increases and hence force of attraction between nucleus and valence electron decreases.
