The accepted IUPAC name of water is oxidane or simply water. Other names include dihydrogen monoxide, dihydrogen oxide and so on. The simplest systematic name of water is hydrogen oxide. For example OF2 is oxygen fluoride but ClO2 is chlorine oxide.

srikar2004: no ClO2 cannot be called as chlorine oxide
srikar2004: because theyalways forms anions
srikar2004: the electronegitivity values are more
nladri2307: ITS CHLORITE
srikar2004: yes its true
