The IUPAC name would be hexaamminecobalt(III) hexacyanochromate(III)as the chromium complex would have a charge of -3 on it thus it’s name ends with an -ate suffix. I hope you can calculate their respective oxidation states and both have to be mentioned

Answer: The IUPAC naming of the complex is hexaamminechromium (III) hexacyanochromate (III)

Explanation:

Rules for naming of the coordination compounds :

  • The ligand named first then metal.
  • The charge of metal indicated with the Roman numerals and enclosed in the parenthesis after metal name.
  • The ligands are named in alphabetical order before the metal ion.
  • Ligands that include a numerical prefix in the name use the prefixes bis for 2, tris for 3, or tetrakis for 4 to indicate their number.
  • If the complex ion is an anion, we drop the ending of the metal name and add –ate.

In the given coordination compound, Co is the cobalt metal, Cr is the chromium metal, CN and NH_3 are the ligands named as cyano and ammine.

For the given coordination complex: [Cr(NH_3)_6][Co(CN)_6]

In the above complex, the cationic part is [Cr(NH_3)_6] and anionic part is [Co(CN)_6]

The IUPAC naming of the complex is hexaamminechromium (III) hexacyanochromate (III)
