The kind of humour where an original piece of text, art or a performance is imitated in a funny manner is called a parody.

A parody involves imitating the content and style of an original creation, like a poem, a speech, a song, and so on, in a hilarious way. The objective of a parody can be to mock at something, to put a point across in a humorous way, or to simply entertain the audience. Either way, it is funny.

While attempting a parody, the form has to be kept consistent. For example, if you describe  Wordsworth’s poem ‘Daffodils’ in a funny way, it will not qualify as a parody. For that, you need to write another poem. Similarly, a poem on Hamlet cannot be a parody of his famous monologue, ‘To be or not to be’. The parody has to be another speech.
