A Binary star system is a pair of stars in close gravitational proximity, orbiting a common Barycenter.

An cluster (Open cluster, star cluster) is a smaller group of gravitationally bound stars, which may appear as a very fuzzy star to the naked eye.

A Globular cluster is a dense, old, spherical collection of stars that orbit a galaxy as a satellite.

A Galaxy is a large grouping of stars orbiting a common centre, such as the Milky Way galaxy where our solar system is found.

A Constellation is a group of stars which form a recognizable pattern in the sky, and there are 88 of them in all. Examples are the constellations of the Zodiac, the Great Bear, the Southern Cross, etc. The constellations have been redefined over the ages, and are commonly accepted around the world.

An Asterism (astronomy) is much like a constellation, but it isn't accepted around the world as a constellation. An individual, an organization or a group may define an asterism for it's own purposes, and may never share that asterism with the public. Commonly known asterisms are the Big Dipper (part of the Great Bear), the Summer Triangle, Orion's Belt and the list is endless. Asterisms may be drawn in your imagination, so there is no limit to the size in the night sky of an asterism. Some may be visible only with a telescope.
