the latitudinal extension of the mainland of India is between 8degree4'N and 37degree6'N . the latidunal extension shows that India is located entirely in the northern hemisphere . the wide latidunal extent of nearly 30 degrees result in wide variation in climate the southern parts get more heat from the sun than the northern parts . the duration of day and night is much less in the south of India at lower latitudes eg. as in Kanyakumari . but the difference increases further north, e.g as in Jammu and Kashmir , as it is further away from the equator .
