The latitudinal extent of India is 8’ 4' N and 37° 6’ N. The Tmpic of Cancer passes through India, dividing the country into two halves.

(a) The latitudinal extent is advantageous to her because southern part lies in the tropical zone and northern part lies in the sub-tropical zone. Indian enjoys the advantage of moderate climate in the south and extreme climates in the north.

(b) The sun rays are always vertical at the equator and southern India being near the equator does not experience much difference in the duration of day and night and it is warm throughout the Year. The northern parts lie in the sub-tropical zone and get slanting rays of the sun and experience large difference between day and mght temperatures.
