first of all factories the numbers

40 = 2×2×2×5 = 2^3×5^1
60 = 2×2×3×5 = 2^2×3^1×5^1

for LCM we multiply maximum powers of all the prime factors therefore,

LCM(40,60) = 2×2×2×3×5 = 120
