The leaves of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis grow alternately on the stem (spirally arranged). The leaves have a 2-4 cm long petiole with a pair of ensiform stipules at the axil of the stalk. The leaf is simple, bright green coloured, glabrous on both sides (some minute hairs on the nerves beneath).
