If we know the length of one side of a right triangle, then we would have to know at least one of the acute angles of the given right triangle so that we could then use the appropriate trigonometric functions to then find the lengths of the other two sides.

For example, if we know the length of the hypotenuse, c , and if we know the measure of the acute angle Ѳ between the hypotenuse and the base, then we can find the lengths of the other two sides, that is, the length of the base, b ,and the length h of the altitude, the side opposite angle Ѳ.
