Loss of water that takes place through lenticels which are small minute pores present on the stem of many woody plants is called lenticular transpiration.

In stomatal transpiration the loss of water about 90% is mainly through the small structures called stomata. In lenticular transpiration there is negligible loss of water about 1% is mainly through lenticels.

→ Stomatal Transpiration

*It occurs through minute pores called stomata present in epidermis of young stem and leaves.

*Loss of water through stomata is called stomatal transpiration.

*Opening and closing of stomata occurs due to osmotic changes in guard cells.

*When the guard cells are turgid, the Stomata get opened.

*When guard cells become flaccid, the Stomata get closed.

→Lenticular transpiration

* It occurs through the lenticels present in the bark of old stems and pericarps of woody fruits.

* Lenticels are fine pores composed of loosely arranged cells called complementary cells.

* It occurs throughout day and night.
