The life process going on in paramoecium are respiration, reproduction, excretion and nutrition.

respiration: Oxygen dissolved in the surrounding water is taken in and carbon dioxide is excreted out by diffusion through the cell membrane.

nutrition: Paramecium follows holozoic nutrition. see holozoic nutrition.

reproduction:

During binary fission, one paramecium cell divides into two genetically identical offspring, or daughter cells. A single paramecium has three nuclei. A large, macronucleus is essential for its survival, while one or two smaller micronuclei are necessary for sexual reproduction. According to Forney, the micronucleus undergoes mitosis, but the macronucleus divides another way, called an amitotic, or non-mitotic, mechanism.
