This law is applicable only for the elastic limit of any material, which means that a material has to be perfectly elastic to obey it

The limitation of Hooke's law is that there is a point beyond which his law is no longer true when stretching a material. His law is applicable to a perfectly elastic material and does not apply beyond the elastic limit of any material.         
         The elastic limit is the point beyond which the material which is being stretched becomes permanently stretched and does not return to its original length when the force is removed.
