The main criterion used by world bank for classifying different countries is per capita income. It has some limitation like it doesn't give us any information about how income is divided. It does not include other aspects like infant mortality rate literacy rate etc. It more materialistic

Two countries with the same per capita income might be very different with regard to income distribution.One might have equitable distribution of income while the other might have great disparities between rich and poor..........
