Federal government :-
- There are two levels of government one at the centre and other at the state.
- There is clear demarcation of powers by the written constitution between the central and state governments.
- Some federal governments have dual citizenship like USA , where a person is the citizen of USA as well his native state in the country.
- Example - India, USA
Unitary government :-
- There is a single level of government only at the centre. Centre may create some sub units for administrative convenience but those units are under the control of the central government.
- All powers are rested with the centre and there is no such demarcation.
- It is characterised by single citizenship.
- Example - UK
