main difference is that Ac generator produce a type of electricity that we can take for a long distance and in dc we can't.

Ac current:
If the magnitude of current ( Amplitude ) changes with respect to time then that current is ac current.
Dc current :
On the other hand if the magnitude of current remains constant over a period of time then it is called DC current.
Ac generator works on the principal of ac current whereas DC generator works on DC current
