What is the main difference between apical,lateral and intercalary meristem?

Apical Meristem Tissue:
They are present at the tips of root and shoot and thus help in increasing the length of the stem and the roots.

Lateral Meristem Tissue:
They occur on the sides both in stem and root. They help in increasing the girth or diameter of the plant.

Intercalary Meristem Tissue:
They occur in intermediate position at the base of leaves, base of internodes or below the nodes. They help in causing stem elongation in the plants.
