Plants make their own food with the help of sunlight which is also known as photosynthesis. Thus the plants can be called as Autotrophs. Animals on the other hand, get their nutrients by eating certain plants and other animals. Thus the animals can be called as Heterotrophs. Some type of plants such as fungi, grow on dead or decaying organisms and hence these are called Saprotrophs.
